How does Massage and Bodywork help you rejuvenate?

  • When inducing relaxation (such as with swedish, shiatsu, thai massage, or energy therapies), the body is able to release tension and stress, creating calmness for the nervous system and the mind.
  • When stimulating (such as with therapeutic massage, sports massage, chair massage), the body's blood and lymphatic flow is enhanced creating detoxification, pain relief, uplifting mental state, and enhanced muscle tone
  • All massage is beneficial for enhancing body awareness, encouraging natural health and homeostasis (natural state of balance), mind-body relaxation and rejuvenation, trauma release, reducing anxiety, enhancing connective, relaxing, and safe touch, mental clarity, energetic flow and alignment.

About Your Session:

Your first session will include an interview with the massage therapist to discuss any medical conditions, injuries, and expectation to create a session that meets your needs.  After your first session, your therapist may recommend further sessions, specific therapies, and/or a self care program in order to maintain benefits of your massage, bodywork, meditation, or yoga session.

Making Your Appointment:

You can make your appointment with Jennifer Coomes by contacting her at 480.343.0949 or by email at jennifer@theessencestudio.com.  In your message, just mention what type of session you would like (ie. length; massage, bodywork, meditation, yoga), any specific therapies you are interested in, your request day and time for appointment, and a brief summary of any health concerns regarding your desire for a massage/bodywork session or meditation/yoga instruction.

While Jennifer is a student at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (becoming a Naturopathic Medical Doctor, ND/NMD, projected graduation date in 2012/2013), her time will be limited for appointments and thus will be focused on quality oriented sessions as her schedule permits.  Thank you for your support, understanding, and flexibility during this time and good wishes and health to you!

Massage & Bodywork Therapies:

Swedish Massage:  Bodywork where gliding and kneading strokes are used with light to medium pressure for purpose of relaxation.  Excellent therapy for fibromyalgia sufferers.

Orthopedic Assessment and Postural Analysis:  A functional assessment done by the massage therapist to observe alignment, posture, range of motion, strength, flexibility, or possible neurological dysfunction, which is highly recommended for injuries, posture problems, or restricted range of motion.  Results of the assessment and analysis are then used to develop a client-centered treatment plan to address weak, tight, or misaligned muscles and restore the natural body movement and posture.

Therapeutic or Injury Massage:  Deeper and detailed bodywork focusing on muscle groups using special injury massage protocols, techniques, and a blend of forearms, elbows, fists, and knuckles are used to reach deeper tissues with the purpose of alleviating pain, range of motion tightness, and muscle tension.

Compression and Release Therapy (designed by Jennifer Coomes):  A special therapy using intuitive and slow rolling compression and movements to release energetic blockages, held trauma, and pain in the body while opening and awakening circulation, thus renewing the body's natural composition.

Trigger Point Therapy:  Specific massage techniques using focused pressure, muscle "stripping" and stretching to release trigger points (painful "knots" in muscle tissue with pain referral zones).

Sports Massage:  Bodywork utilizing American & Russian massage techniques to assist trained athletes, exercisers, and weekend warriors to prepare, maintain, and treat muscles for sporting events and workouts by affecting circulation, lymphatic flow, and muscle health.

Pregnancy & Infant Massage:  Modified swedish and therapeutic massage designed to support a woman during pregnancy to relieve muscle tension, back pain, swelling, and insomnia.  Infant massage is taught to parents to foster bonding and active roles in baby's health and well-being.

Cranial Sacral Therapy:  Non-invasive combination of bodywork and energy medicine involving light touch on the bones of the head and spine to release tension and facilitate deep relaxation.  CST can relieve conditions such as TMJD, tension headaches, migraines, sinusitis, ADD/ADHD, chronic pain and emotional trauma.

Reflexology:  Bodywork involving massage of reflex areas on the feet and hands that correspond to and affect specific body parts and organs of the body.

Traditional Thai Massage:  Bodywork, done on a padded mat, combining yoga-like stretching, therapeutic massage strokes, and energywork to address injuries, promote postural balance, increase flexibility, and rejuvenate the mind and body.

Shiatsu:  Energy medicine and bodywork, traditionally done on a padded mat, that addresses the body's meridians, or energy pathways, by using light touch, finger pressure, and passive stretching of the joints and muscles to move and balance the body's vital energy, Ki.

Acupressure:  Energy medicine designed to release blockages in the body's energy source, Chi, by using light touch on pressure points on the body to affect the body's mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

Reiki:  Energy medicine facilitating healing and balance by using a series of hand positions to pass "Universal Energy" or "reiki" throughout the body, often called a "massage from the inside out"
